Off the Wheel: A Showcase of Slab-built Pots for the Table and Home
March 31- April 30, 2010
Chestnut Hill Academy  500 West Willow Grove Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19118

NCECA 2010, 44th ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Curated by Cheyenne Chapman Rudolph, this exhibition is intended to showcase the variety of approaches to slab building. The artists chosen represent a wide range of work and work types, from tight and rendered to loose and fluid. Their pots are built with slabs of different consistencies- malleable to stiff- and they are made using patterns, molds, or a more free-form approach.  These particular styles emerge from artists at all levels of experience, from promising students in a school environment to established artists working as studio potters.

Chosen for this exhibition are Benjamin Carter, Sam Chung, Marc Digeros, Allison McGowan, Chris Pickett, Sandi Pierantozzi, Cheyenne Chapman Rudolph, Amy Scher, and Liz Zlot Summerfield. These particular slab-builders each have a distinct approach to building pots, pushing the material to express the unique language of each artist.
